“This has been the trip of a lifetime; it’s taught me how to deal with life’s upsets in a place where I don’t have familiar support systems,” says Zsa Zsa Dubose ’25, one of the 20 Tigers that took part in this year’s Trinity Japan Program.

In this program, students get to explore Japan while taking classes on contemporary Japanese society, business economy, politics, and cultural traditions over six weeks over the summer. Although Zsa Zsa, a business analytics and technology major and theatre minor, admits that she initially committed to the program based on “vibes,” it ended up being a transformative experience for her.

From climbing the Tokyo Skytree to attending a Takarazuka show, the program exposed Zsa Zsa to unique experiences.

“My time in Japan remained characterized by contrasting experiences, the familiar and the unfamiliar. Back home, small tasks like going to the bank and grocery shopping can be absolutely terrifying. After navigating subways, buses, taxis, ferries, and planes on my own in another continent, I’ve learned to trust my abilities,” Zsa Zsa says.

Toward the end of the program, she and the other students were joined by Provost Megan Mustain.

“Her visit was a great opportunity to speak with someone from the University’s administration,” Zsa Zsa says. “We got to joke with her and get to know her on a personal level which made it easier to share our thoughts on the program with her.”

The Trinity Japan Program was one of the nine Trinity faculty-led study abroad programs that took place around the world this summer. Stay tuned to see where else our Tigers learned!
