Andrew Phillips ’25 has been breaking legs since arriving at Trinity. As a theater and geoscience double major, he has been able to combine his passions through the liberal arts community that Trinity fosters. 

An awardee of the Baker Duncan theater scholarship, Andrew has worked in various productions as a stage manager. He loves working behind the scenes to support the rest of the cast and crew. 

On the other side, Andrew is involved in the geoscience department. Here, he focuses on studying geographic information systems and hydrogeology to find sustainable resources for the future. 

Though his majors may seem totally unrelated on the surface, Andrew plans to apply the skills he has learned in theater to his work in the geoscience field. “One of the beauties of a degree like theater is that the applications go beyond just the theater,” he says. “Stage managers have so many organizational and management responsibilities that you have to know if you want to be successful in other careers.”

Declaring his major has helped Andrew use these two passions in tandem. And with a major-specific advisor, students like Andrew are able to chart out their paths with an experienced mentor. 

Additionally, major declaration is a great way to get involved in departments of interest. 

“Just do it. You have nothing to lose,” Andrew says, “It’s fun, and it’s a level of satisfaction to be declared. It’s already great, you’ve got it in, you’ve been taking classes, you’ve been doing well, but now you’ve declared a major!”
