Did you know Trinity has its own float at Fiesta?

Fiesta San Antonio was first organized 130 years ago by a group of local women to commemorate the Battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto. The annual event has since evolved into a ten-day celebration of San Antonio’s rich history and diverse culture.

Though the iconic festival started in 1891, Trinity made its official Fiesta debut in 1946 with floats at the Battle of the Flowers Parade and the Texas Cavaliers River Parade. Over the years, student interest in the event began to fade, and by the 1980s, Trinity no longer officially participated in the festivities. However, by the early 2000s, the University made an impressive comeback, resuming both of its parade sponsorships and unveiling a colossal helium balloon shaped like a tiger that has become a permanent fixture at Fiesta.

Around this time, Trinity also began producing an annual series of Fiesta medals featuring notable campus landmarks such as Murchison Tower and Miller Fountain, and even LeeRoy the Tiger. These popular medals, created by individuals and organizations across the city, are a long-standing part of Fiesta tradition. Collectors buy, sell, share, and trade them each year at an event called “Pin Pandemonium.”

While usually held in the spring, Fiesta 2021 kicks off today, June 17, and runs through Sunday, June 27. For more information and a full calendar of events, visit fiestasanantonio.org.
