We have a wedding today and tomorrow, and we are implementing our indoor weather back up plans for both, unfortunately. It’s never a fun call to make, but sometimes it’s a necessary one. If you’re planning an outdoor event, you have to be ready to roll with the punches if the weather doesn’t cooperate. If you’re celebrating at a venue that doesn’t have a weather backup space, OR if you don’t like the indoor space reserved for you as a backup, get a tent on reserve EARLY on in the planning process. Otherwise, you’re gambling with Mother Nature and have to accept the circumstances if you lose.

Additionally, reserve a tent well in advance of the event date to allow rental companies the time they need to reserve a crew to put up the tent (it takes around 10 people and 8-10 hours of physical labor to put up a tent). The rental companies also need to obtain the necessary permits (yes, large structure tents require a permit from the county) and that can be a two-week process or sometimes even longer. Trying to get a tent once the ten-day forecast is available is not the appropriate time to do so (not to mention that’s when everyone else who didn’t reserve a tent is scrambling to get one, too).

And one final reminder- if you chose not to reserve a tent and the structure of your day has to be adjusted in major ways, give your wedding planner and the vendor teams some space and grace. Hint: Expressing your appreciation and gratitude to them for making it work despite your decision to not get a tent goes a long way ;)

Attitude is everything, and even if the weather isn’t perfect, your day will still be beautiful as long as YOU let it be.
