## Caption

When having open-heart surgery, does one dictate to the surgeon how it should be done and with what tools? When ordering at a restaurant, does one instruct the chef on what recipe to follow? When a root canal must be performed, is it up to the patient to tell the dentist what tools to use and dictate exactly how long the procedure should take?

The obvious answer to these questions is no. 

Procedures are in place for a reason. Certain tools are utilized for a reason. As planners, we are responsible for ensuring accuracy and the success of all key players. As such, we have certain procedures in place and even templates that we use to obtain the information necessary to do our jobs. 

Brides, grooms, their parents and even some vendors don’t know the half of what goes on behind the scenes for planners to be able to put on a large scale production. When clients can’t respect the process and take it upon themselves to try and negotiate the efficiency of the process and tools a professional utilizes to do their job, it’s not only rude, it’s flat out disrespectful. 

If something isn’t working, then have an open conversation about it with the professional you’ve hired. I promise you any professional you hire wants to perform to the best of their ability and make their customers happy. And in order for them to do so, they need to be able to utilize the tools and a process THEY are familiar and most comfortable with. But if the intent is to disrespect process and procedures while trying to micromanage all involved, save your money and everyone else the headache, and just do it yourself.
