Despite falling in the river 🫣 - Day 2 was my fav because…

1. We reached the #PCT & JMT! 🎉 If you’re new here—we’re on the hunt to experience much of the 2,800 mile ‘Pacific Crest Trail’ - which winds from the border of Mexico to Canada 🇨🇦. BUT, we’re doing it in squirrel size chunks, over yearsssss.

2. We reached Rae Lakes and… pictures don’t do it justice!

3. SNACK were 10/10: we had grabbed fillosfoods’ ‘Walking Tamales’ at a highlander.usa trek — and not only have they held up, they are DELICIOUS.

…almost as good as our current favorite trail snack, the_onlybean — they’re suoer lightweight, super satisfying & high protein. (Siracha flavor’s soooo tasty).

MY FAV PART: meeting and chatting with ‘real’ PCT hikers. I was fan girling and Evan had to limit my Q’s 😆. Talk about inspiring — we met all ages and abilities, even an 80-year old taking it slow, knocking off 200+ miles a year—then returning the next year, right where he left off.

Inspiring, right?? 🥹

About falling into the river… I was feeling low on mile 10+ and should have had a snack &
liquidiv prior to another big water crossing to rejuvenate me. Basically I froze atop a rock and tripped up my feet, falling in. Evan rushed to pull me up— just as a PCT-er with trail runners jogged me through the river 😆.

Personally, I prefer boots vs easy-to-dry trail runners because I love the support, especially on my ankles, since I have multiple sprains.

Note: I wore my camp slippers through the big water crossing at 7:30am 🥶.

〰️What do you hike in? Trail runners or hiking boots?

〰️Have you, or do you want to hike any portion of the PCT someday?

Mileage: 13.5 miles
Elevation: 4,000 ft gain to camp at 10,500 😮‍💨 — for us who live at sea level, this is the hardest part.

✔️Stay tuned for outdoor fun, road trips, and travel inspo! We’re 9-5 weekend warriors, doin our best to experience life NOW.
