The high seas 🌊🐟 are the vast expanses of the world's oceans that lie beyond the 200-mile exclusive economic zones of coastal states. These areas make up more than two-thirds of the world's 🌎 oceans and are subject to very little regulation, allowing for activities like overfishing, illegal fishing, and deep-sea mining that can have detrimental effects on marine life and ecosystems. The High Seas Treaty 🐋, which aims to protect 30% of the high seas by 2030, is significant because it will establish protected areas and limit harmful activities, safeguarding marine life and their habitats for future generations 🐬🌿
