GLEAM: 
José Rolón doesn't have a lot of time on his hands being a widowed, nycgaydad of three children, TV host, wedding planner, content creator, and rising star. (Well, from the looks of it, not so single anymore ❤️). Not a lot of time to explain these different facets of his identity--and nor should he have to--to other guys who lean heavily on assumptions, stereotypes, and appearances. 

"Part of the problem with a lot of the apps, whether it's dating or hookup apps, is they already made these assumptions about me without doing a deeper dive. Maybe we're trying to schedule something and i let them know first I have got to find a babysitter. They're like, 'Wait, what? You're a dad? Are you married to a woman? Are you in the closet? Or are you divorced to a woman.’ I'm like, 'Nope, I'm a single gay father. I'm a widower.' And so I have to explain that on a hookup app, because it sort of creates this anxiety because they don't really know how to handle that. 

"I've also been discriminated against, but not necessarily as a Latin man.... 'Oh, I thought you were Indian. I thought you were Pakistani. Or Lebanese. I'm not into that—Middle Eastern men.' And then they find out, 'Oh wait, your name's José? Oh you're ...' And then all of a sudden, there's a shift and for me it's a massive turn off because it's all based on assumptions."

We admire you, Jose, for your resilience in the face of tragedy, and doing it all with such grace and humor. You Gleam 💫.
