UPMC is proud to honor the military members who serve our nation. We thank all veterans for their courage and sacrifice. This week, for #VeteransDay, we're sharing some of their stories.

"Following my high school graduation in August 2014, I was unsure what career path to follow so I enlisted as a Medic (68W) in the United States Army Reserves and used my job selection as an opportunity to test the waters in the medical field. Upon completion of my training in November 2016, I returned home to my previous job as a waitress and my newly acquired NREMT certification began to gather dust. In 2017, I met a paramedic that was working full time for Susquehanna Regional EMS who convinced me to do a ride along on one of the MICUs here in Williamsport. I quickly discovered an interest in civilian EMS and began applying to Susquehanna Health for a full-time position as an EMT with SREMS. I began my career here in our transport division in July 2017. I worked every overtime shift I could get on our 911 trucks to learn as much as possible and applied for every 911 position that opened. My persistence paid off in March 2018 when I was awarded a position on a 911 BLS truck out of Montoursville Fire Department where I have been ever since. In my position here, I have learned countless things both about my job and myself as well as developed friendships with the members of the station, other first responders, and members of the community. This is also where I met my fiancé and I now live in the community I serve every day. My military service will be coming to an end next August but without that service, I would not be where I am today, and I will forever be grateful for that opportunity." - Ivy Lunt, UPMC North Central Pa. #veteran #EMT #firstresponder #usarmyreserves
