## Caption

#OnThisDay in 1965, over 600 civil rights marchers, led by activist John Lewis, walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. Across the bridge, state troopers were waiting to evoke violence on the people marching. This day became known as #BloodySunday.

This march helped lead to the Voting Rights Act, which was signed into law in August of that year.
