I chose Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Incorporated because not only did I find my community, but I was finally able to embrace both of my cultures wholeheartedly. Society portrayed stereotypes of what a Latina “should” look and act like, being the reason for why I struggled so much with my identity growing up. However, ever since I met my sisters and my beautiful chapter, they have helped me feel more confident in who I am and where I come from. Being the FIRST multicultural sorority in the nation, I was able to hear similar experiences from many different women with different backgrounds and allowed myself to see other perspectives. I was finally able to find a space where I didn’t feel alone and where I could be my most raw self. These women helped me realize that instead of seeking that validation from other people, I had to search for it within myself first.
