Ever sit on a train and wonder about the places you pass through on your morning commute, cross-country vacation, or that day trip to the big city? Yes, no, maybe, you just finished the last episode of your podcast and need something to entertain you. No worries, we’ve got you covered. From the comfort of your seat, National Park Service Trails & Rails volunteers are ready to help you connect with the sites and stories of the places you see along the way. For almost 25 years, the Trails and Rails partnership with amtrak has continued the long history of train travel and national parks by providing educational opportunities for travelers on the heritage and natural resources in regions crisscrossed by select Amtrak trains. 

To kick off #NationalParkWeek and #NationalVolunteerWeek, Director Chuck Sams boarded the train from Washington D.C. to New York City. Along the way, he met with volunteers and learned about the history of nearby national parks and their historic landscapes.
