If you ever need a compliment for someone named Ann, Leslie Knope has you covered. (Not responsible if compliment doesn’t land. Feel free to use with those who spell it “Anne.”)

1️⃣”Oh, Ann, you beautiful, rule-breaking moth.”

I don't alway wear leopard print, but when I do, I’m like a tiger.⁣ The giant leopard moth (Hypercompe scribonia), is a large moth that is easy to identify. (Hint: It’s the spots.) It’s wings have a pattern of black and shiny black/blue dots.

2️⃣ “Ann, you beautiful tropical fish. You’re smart as a whip and you’re cool under pressure.”

Well, we think you’re fintastic too! The juvenile queen angelfish can be found blending in with sea whips and fans on the offshore reefs. They have a dark blue body with brilliant blue to white curved bars and a dark blue bar across the eyes. They prefer offshore deeper reefs.

3️⃣ “Ann, you are such a good friend, you’re a beautiful, talented, brilliant, powerful musk-ox.”

Take the compliment. We appreciate your work ethic, strength of body, unique character, wide-set eyes, and potent musk. The muskox (Ovibos moschatus), also spelled musk ox, is an Arctic mammal of the Bovidae family. Its Inuktitut name “umingmak” translates to “the bearded one.” True to its name, the musk ox emits a strong musky odor during mating season.

4️⃣ “Ann, you poetic, noble land-mermaid.”

Did you know centuries ago manatees were mistaken for the mermaids of myth and legend? What the dinglehopper? The mystery of the unknown coupled with some of the manatee’s humanlike features—its ability to turn its head, its flat tail—possibly led sailors to mistake it for the mythical creature. Land mermaid? Umm, yeah. Manatees are fully aquatic animals. They never leave the water or go on land for any reason. Work with us here.
