Me: “Oh, here come the Swansons.” 

You: “I thought we agreed to see less of them…Oh, hi, Serena. Hi, Louis. Still got that trumpet?” 

With a graceful neck and snowy-white plumage, Trumpeter swans are the largest of native waterfowl in North America. Why “trumpeter?” They don’t actually play a trumpet. (Where would they keep the case?) Think deep, honking “oh-OH” call, with the second syllable emphasized. Quick!!! Do it now! Especially if you’re on a video call. What? You weren’t on mute? (Side note, unlike the Trumpeter swan, another well-known swan species is the Mute Swan. It’s name (stick with us) 'mute' derives from it being less vocal than other swan species.) Wow. Full circle. Oh, your boss wants you to stay on after the call? Well, while you’re waiting, how about more fun facts to share with your boss? 

🦢You’re the swan that I want! Around the age of 2-4 years, swans choose a mate which they will generally remain with for the rest of their lives. In the wild, swans can live to be over 20 years old. Choose wisely.

🦢Although awkward on the ground due to short legs set behind their center of gravity, (relatable) they can walk more than a mile at a time, even when traveling with young (cygnets) less than a week old.

🦢As the biggest native waterfowl, stretching to 6 feet in length and weighing more than 25 pounds, getting airborne requires a lumbering takeoff and a fairly long runway.
