Whether hiking, backpacking, or planning to be on your feet for an extended period of time, stretching before and after is a highly effective way to prepare your body for any physical activity and to prevent injuries. If you’re stretching before a hike, do a few dynamic movements first. Try brisk walking, leg and arm swings, or even a few jumping jacks. (Poking a bear and running up a tree, although a good cardio workout, is not recommended.) We can unpack that with you later.
