Did you know the National Park Service has a wildlife research project using remote motion-triggered cameras to learn more about wildlife post-wildfire? The November 2018 Woolsey Fire was the largest fire on record in the Santa Monica Mountains. Large fires can have long-lasting impacts on native wildlife communities. Biologists are trying to learn more about the specific effects that they have and how wildlife use burned areas and habitat after a wildfire. 
 
Since August 2019 and as part of the multi-year project, volunteers and UCLA graduate students have collected about one million photos using trail cameras placed around Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Images are currently being identified and studied.
