“Art is so important because it gives us an outlet to express ourselves. It gives us a reason and a mode for our emotions. Art is very healing, and it’s helped me become the person I am today.”
Celebrate #DisabilityPrideMonth with Kemi Yemi-Ese, an artist and therapist living with paralysis. Kemi was a featured presenter at #ReeveSummit2024, where she shared adaptive art techniques such as using special grips to hold oil pastels or paintbrushes.
Looking for a way to create art with limited mobility? Try this: Use tape to attach your medium (such as an oil pastel or paintbrush) to a longer paintbrush or stick. Adjust thickness by adding more sticks or foam. Follow kemisart for more adaptive art techniques!

Video: Kemi Yemi-Ese, a black woman in a power wheelchair, discusses adaptive art and its importance. She is sitting behind a table covered with various art supplies. Her sketchbook is in front of her.
