One does not simply take a short cut to Oregon…⁣

Visiting a park or hitting the trail? Be prepared!  Pick a Trip Leader! For larger groups, consider assigning an Assistant Group Leader. (Or is it Assistant to the Group Leader?) Ensure that the Trip Leader has the right level of skill and experience to serve in a leadership role. You should find out pretty fast. If not, well, we’ll get there. ⁣
⁣
Pick a Safety Leader! A Safety Leader(s) is someone, or a couple of people, in your group responsible for safety. If you are traveling alone, you are the Safety Leader! Yeah, you got this. Your job includes:⁣
⁣
✔️Checking all equipment and supplies before and during the trip. Whoa, someone went wild at the general store. ⁣
⁣
✔️Monitoring your group members’ health and energy levels. C’mon now. Eat a snack and stop dissing Terry. ⁣
⁣
✔️Being aware of changes in the environment (e.g. weather) and physical conditions and communicate them to the Trip Leader. We’re fording what?⁣
⁣
✔️Looking out for hazards during the activity. You have us fording a river and you had time to get a snake bite? ⁣
⁣
✔️It’s always a good idea for you or at least one person in your group to have received CPR and First Aid training. How did you even find a wagon axel? Let alone get stuck in one? ⁣
⁣
✔️Do your best to get your group safely from Point A to Point B. They’re probably not paying you, and if you hear one more sigh….oh, you’re still in the parking lot. What happened to you group? ⁣
