#ICYMI: our Sun kicked off 2024 with some epic New Year's fireworks. 🌞The largest #solarflare since 2017 erupted from the Sun on New Year's Eve, shooting a plume of plasma known as a coronal mass ejection (CME) toward Earth. Events of this scale can cause geomagnetic storms on Earth, potentially interrupting radio and satellite communications and even impacting the power grid - though we escaped unscathed this time! 😮‍💨
