Are you ready for another #PAWSitivePivots feature? 🐾 Meet Jyoti Makhijani & Allie Robbins! Jyoti graduated in May with a Marketing degree from TerryCollege and a minor in Human Development & Family Science (HDFS) & Allie will graduate in December with a degree in HDFS from ugafacs.

Their PLANS ➡️ Allie accepted an internship with a summer program serving people with neurological and behavioral conditions in her hometown and Jyoti was about to begin working with KPMG as a management consultant in July.

What CHANGED? 😮 For Allie, all in-person internships were canceled to protect students and community members. For Jyoti, her start date got pushed back.

How did they PIVOT? ↪️ Jyoti has always been passionate about volunteering with children, so when she heard about Get Your Play On(Line), she reached out to Allie to see if she would be interested in getting involved too! They are now both working with Get Your Play On(Line) to make developmentally appropriate activities for children and families spending more time at home during COVID-19. This flexible program has allowed them to utilize their child development knowledge to make activity plans.

What did they LEARN? 👩‍🏫 Prior to this volunteer experience, Jyoti had never created an activity or lesson plan, but now she can easily write one in less than 30 minutes! Both learned that you have to be flexible because things may not go as planned. For instance, while teaching an origami class, all the folds appeared flipped to the kids because the video shows a mirror image!😆 💻
