We often look to Chianti simply for the familiarity of its name. The Chianti Classico from Isole e Olena, however, deserves special attention. Since 1976, Paolo de Marchi has labored to bring quality and regional distinction to Chianti’s historic Classico zone. His passion for cultivating the Sangiovese grape is expressed through seamlessly blended tradition and innovation. While he’s widely renowned for his production of pure Sangiovese, his famous IGT “Cepparello” wine, de Marchi offers a thoroughly charming and more customary formula for Chianti Classico as well: this Sangiovese-based blend that includes local Tuscan grape Canaiolo and a touch of Syrah. With the help of carefully restrained oak, this wine is transformed into layered aromas of cedar, juniper, and leather, followed by a cherry lift and polished tannins.
