Hi! My name is Alero, i am 16 years old and I am the founder of hockeygirlz__ 

Something most of you don’t know about me, is that I’m a beginner! Yes, I am very much a newbie to hockey! 

I moved to Canada two years ago from Nigeria, and in my second year, while I was doing a research assignment for school about hockey, i stumbled upon a penguins game and I fell instantly In love. I’ve been in love ever since then. I guess it’s All thanks to my teacher then 😂 

After this, I rented skates and began practicing everyday for at least 7 hours to learn to skate and do the basic hockey movements. I was very blessed  to come across amazing people who would help me out on the ice and coach me, out of the kindness of their hearts. Huge thank you to Phil and Litta! 

Fast forward to 9 months later, and I have met an amazing coach and mentor eatthisforperformance pearle_nerenberg who has decided to take me and my sister under her wings to help us to be the best we can be in hockey. I am extremely grateful for all the help and love. 

My dream is to play for Havard university, then go on to play for pwhpa with the legends. It is also my hope to play  in the Olympics someday :)

Something a lot of people have asked me is why I have an information packed page for female hockey players, when I too am new to the sport. Well, the answer is I also am in need of a page a like this! Theres nothing really out there to support women in hockey. I want to change that. 

I was during the quarantine that I really noticed the void in women’s hockey. I wanted to practice and improve my skills, but I couldn’t find any websites or pages that were geared towards girls. The ones I did find that were for girls, were not for really aimed at teenagers like me, so I decided to create that space for young girls like me who love hockey and want a place to go to learn, have fun and feel welcome. That is what I want to do with this Instagram page and our upcoming website. 

On this page and on our website, I will be posting updates on my progress in hockey, and I hope you will join me on this amazing journey to revolutionize this sport for women
