This movement was started by Turkish women and was sparked by the brutal murder of 27-year-old Pinar Gültekin. They wanted to not only demand justice for Pinar, but bring awareness to the horrific violence against women in Turkey and the shockingly high femicide rate. I am keeping this photo up to show my support of our Turkish sisters and to help add to the voices. But I need to step aside so people can truly hear and hopefully learn the message behind this movement. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ “Protests have erupted all over Turkey to campaign against these atrocities, which activists have dubbed ‘femicide’ with the Turkish government moving to abolish the ‘Istanbul Convention’ which is the only thing protecting women from widespread harm. The challenge accepted movement was a way for the women of Turkey to band together with a B&W picture to say that any of them could be next on the front page of the newspaper. 2020 has been one of the toughest years of recent history and I know we’re all tired of the heartbreaking stories in our communities, of our marginalized brothers and sisters, but we have to keep fighting and spreading awareness.
