ICYMI: In a significant legal development today, a federal court has invalidated Alabama’s congressional map due to its failure to comply with a court order enforcing the landmark Voting Rights Act. This ruling marks a crucial victory for democracy and Black voters in Alabama, who have once again confronted a congressional map that diminished our political influence.

Looking ahead to the pivotal 2024 elections, court-appointed experts will take charge of the redistricting process, with the primary goal of incorporating two majority Black districts into the new map.

According to the court’s decision, “The law mandates the establishment of an additional district that provides Black Alabamians, just like all citizens, with a fair and equitable opportunity to elect their preferred candidates. The 2023 Plan unquestionably falls short of achieving this objective.
