Meet David Leite, cookbook author, memoirist and the man behind leitesculinaria. And today’s #MediavineMonday feature!

David began his career as a food writer in 1998 and founded Leite’s Culinaria — the first ever to win a James Beard Award for a website — in 1999. After 24 years in the industry, David has influenced the art of online food writing in myriad ways.

Check out what his routine looks like and how he continues to grow his thriving business:

Q: What does your daily blogging routine look like?

A: I check my dashboard first thing in the morning before I get out of bed. Sometimes I check it so early the data hasn't flowed in. That sets the intention for the day.

Then my managing editor and I tackle archive posts, deciding what can go, what can be noindexed, and what can be optimized. Right now, we're posting an archive, a roundup, and a new recipe each week. But we're playing around with that cadence. Gone are the days of posting 21 to 35 posts a week!

We have a policy of "no comment left behind," so we answer every comment. Most times, we reply on the site, but sometimes we need to take over to email to really help our readers.

And, last, every two weeks, I record my podcast, Talking With My Mouth Full, with my cohost Amy Traverso.

Q: How has being a part of Mediavine helped you?

A: Mediavine has such a wealth of information that it makes figuring out how to get ahead so much easier. The support staff is amazing; all my questions are always answered to my satisfaction. And the RPMs are the best in the business.

Q: How are you currently working to grow your business?

A: I'm using Grow, for sure. Also, I'm culling content. My site's 24 years old, which means I started long before the advent of blogging. Back then, the trend was to be a digital magazine — offering a little something for everyone. Now I'm winnowing down the types of content I have so that what’s left reflects me and my tastes more.

Also, I think I have the opposite problem of a lot of business owners. I had too many people working alongside me. So I pared things down, changed our workflow, slowed our cadence, and reassigned responsibilities. Much better.
