Do I need to flash my hearing device for you to believe me when I say I am deaf/hard of hearing? That it would help me if you'd slow down your speech rate, enunciate, provide access to visual cues and caption your content? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 

Just because I have access to soft sounds and the ability to speak clearly does not mean I am faking or looking for attention or handouts. I'm sorry you've had certain experiences in life that have led you to think people would do so - but please do not place your past on me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 

Don't get me wrong, I love showing off my CIs with bright colors and pointing them out to new acquaintances but sometimes I reach a point of exasperation after making the umpteenth request for closed caption, enunciation or repetition. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 

In a perfect world, communities welcome all walks of life, are exposed to and are educated on how to be all inclusive and no one feels isolated. But it's not a perfect world - which is why certain voices are raised, louder than others or why some need support and others to be a voice for them. I'm here to share my point of view, in hopes to shine a light upon the path so others can walk confidently and without having to face and conquer the same challenges.
