KIDS DON’T NEED TO DRINK GATORADE (and arguably shouldn’t). Plus, it’s bad for the environment since it only comes in single use plastic.⁣
⁣
In their 2011 clinical report, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says that water is “the appropriate first choice for hydration before, during, and after most exercise regimens”. According to the report, “For most children and adolescents, daily electrolyte requirements are met sufficiently by a healthy balanced diet; therefore, sports drinks offer little to no advantage over plain water.”⁣
⁣
Plus, let’s be honest, the amount activity most kids do for sport doesn’t justify a drink laden with that much sugar, plus a bunch of weird additives and dyes.⁣
⁣
And, if you are (still) worried about electrolyte replacement for your kid:⁣
⁣
1️⃣ See above - if a kid is eating a balanced diet they don’t actually need electrolytes.⁣
⁣
2️⃣ There are tons of WAY better alternatives like things you can add to your kids’ water bottles (drinklmnt or o2hydration or nuunhydration)- LMNT and NUUN can be added to your kids own water bottle (so no plastic) and O2 is in an awesome aluminum can that can be recycled.  All replace electrolytes with very little or no sugar.⁣

Lastly, if you are bringing Gatorade just to be the FUN parent, bring donuts 🍩instead!  A Krispy Kreme Donut donut has 10 grams of sugar compared to a small (12 oz) Gatorade has 21 grams‼️⁣
