The first day our pre-production Mini LF from ARRI arrived to set in Tanzania was such a relief. 🐐 It’s the camera I’ve been dreaming of for nomadthefilm since day one. ⠀
⠀
It’s so crucial to protect for streaming these days, and 4K is essentially becoming a mandate for all streaming services.⠀
⠀
Having a large format sensor in such a small and robust camera body is an astounding asset to a production like this where we are constantly traveling to increasingly different and more challenging locations, with wildly diverse climates and often eccentric weather systems. ⠀

As far as glass goes, pairing that massive LF sensor with the Signature Primes has resulted in an image that feels entirely grounded in reality to me and comes as close as I’ve ever seen to real life - and that exact aesthetic is something that taronlexton mentioned from day one and we’ve discussed at length frequently during principle photography. ⠀

Every single frame in Nomad has to feel massive and epic, but without ever feeling like it wasn’t real. These are all actual locations that the cast and crew are traveling to and shooting at, devoid of any sort of green screen or CGI and the way the film is shot has to do these incredibly unsourced places the justice they deserve. ⠀

As far as mobility... well I can finally operate a camera whilest also kidnapping and ultimately saving the life of a dinner-destined goat from the local Maasai village with my cohort danbairdsurvival. So in a lot of ways, it’s a fair assessment to say that this new camera has been a life saver. ⠀
