All natural light + no green screen + no studio sets means... lots of of pre-dawn call times 🌅 I don’t think I’ve ever watched so many sunrises and sunsets in a row, and that’s saying something when working with taronlexton as a director. The man likes to watch the sun crest over the horizon like no one else, and I love it. 🎥 I’ve always taken great joy in lighting a set, and it’s become a bit of a ritual and zen-like process for me. I love being able to control the world I shoot in. But shooting a feature film without an artificial light in sight has been a really rewarding learning experience. I’m so used to fighting against what nature provides - throwing up huge solids to block the sun and have a 18K HMIs to play through windows all day has been a great comfort in the past, but the very nature and story of nomadthefilm has meant forgoing those tools and learning to really work with the weather and what nature provides us on a day to day basis - and with that comes a sense of freedom and beauty you can’t really replicate any other way. We’re only 4 countries deep out of 25, but I’ve already learned so much throughout this process. 🤙🏼 The world has a lot to offer and learning to use natural light in a narrative sense has been a drastic shift in process for me and has yielded an aesthetic I didn’t really think was possible. I’m so excited for what’s to come, and for all the lessons to be learned on this absolutely insane and life-changing project. 📷 tedhesser #nomadthefilm #ArriLF #SignaturePrimes
