COMMON PRACTICE: Public Access is on view Wed-Sun (2-6pm) this week and next! The exhibition runs through Saturday Sept 3, don’t miss out! 

“The idea is to create a new point of access,” said John Dennis, creative director of NXTHVN and curator of COMMON PRACTICE: Public Access. “Bridging the gap between art, basketball and public space means an opportunity to build and further our connection with both the immediate community and Greater New Haven. For this project, the Dixwell community and Goffe Street Park are really the central characters. NXTHVN, Common Practice and all of the artists in the show have come together in support of a greater narrative, driving positive impact and connectivity.” 

Public Access examines the role and importance of “the park”. Contributing artists utilize photography, photo collage, and film to explore the impact of basketball as a cultural medium and its capacity for community building.

The exhibition features work from Anwulika Anigbo, Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe, Kevin Couliau, Sue Kwon, Hope Mora, Daniel Ramos, Robin Rhode, Tschabalala Self, Paul Anthony Smith, Ashley Tillery, SHAN Wallace and Kim Weston.
