The newly renovated basketball court by artist Jason _REVOK_ located at📍Conant-Minnesota Park, Detroit, MI, and painted in REVOK’s signature ‘Tape Loop’ style, was an opportunity to use court renovation tools - large squeegees and color coating - as an integrated part of the art making process.

Working in the grey area between the mechanical and the human-made, each gesture creates a visual record of the Artist’s movement.

Viewed alone, each individual gesture is imperfect. Viewed as a whole, the imperfections combine to create a vibrant space for community gathering, full of life and energy.

Public park basketball courts are a place where people learn to become, and practice being, community members. 

On the court the goal may be simple - first team to eleven wins, for example - but one must accept others as they are, with all their individual flaws and imperfections, to find a way to work as a group and achieve a shared goal (so you can stay on the court as long as possible that day!).

This basketball court at Conant-Minnesota Park is an example of individual flaws and imperfections coming together to create a beautiful whole, and a reflection of the vibrancy of the Conant-Minnesota Park community.
