Truth will prevail, in the end.

After hearing the ICJ verdict today, it is despairing to say the least, that even after 112 days of killing, displacing, kidnapping, torturing, humiliating, and starving the Palestinian people, the ICJ could not muster the voice to speak the truth, to call what is happening a genocide and call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

It goes without saying that the ICJ has failed to order Israel to halt military operations in Gaza, despite having the authority to do so.

Nevertheless, we still have hope.

The verdict has set several precedents, voted for almost unanimously by the court’s judges, that the struggle for Palestine can build upon. South Africa’s charge that Israel is committing genocide was deemed plausible and the ICJ has recognized many of South Africa’s claims. The court has also delivered a ruling calling on Israel to take all measures within its powers to “prevent genocide”.

Israel cannot prevent genocide. The last three months have shown us clearly, that all of its goals rest on the necessity that Israel continues to perpetrate a genocide on Palestinians. Because Israel’s intentions at their core are unjust, they will be proven guilty.

We thank South Africa and the team of lawyers with all our hearts. The true victory here is that the world can see, now more than ever, the corruption and injustice of the Israeli occupation. And the inevitability of Palestinian freedom and sovereignty.

This case is not over, and it will take months if not years until a final verdict is made. But in the interim, we are gaining strength, and we will not rest until the truth will prevail.
