In the desert region of Masafer Yatta in the southern West Bank, this inspiring Palestinian elder takes it upon himself to drive children to school using his tractor every day since many villages in Yatta lack nearby schools.
This is just one of the many struggles endured by the residents of Masafer Yatta.

Since 1981, they have been facing expulsion threats and demolition orders. That year, the Israeli army designated the area as a firing zone – a closed military zone.

Since then, Israeli authorities have been putting extraordinary pressure on them to leave the area, in what may amount to a forcible transfer, prohibited under International Humanitarian Law.

The residents' access to basic necessities such as electricity, water, food, and education, as well as freedom of movement and medical care, are severely limited. Many have been forced to leave their homes due to these hardships.

They have experienced an increase in harassment, restrictive measures, demolition orders, and the destruction of homes, schools, and other structures. Authorities have also installed checkpoints, confiscated residents' vehicles, enforced curfews, and imposed other movement restrictions, further impacting their lives.

But despite it all, the people of Masafer Yatta have shown incredible resilience. Their unwavering determination to cling to their land, their culture, and their identity is an inspiration to all those who hear their story, to stand in solidarity with their struggle for justice and freedom.🇵🇸
