Repost from fueling.former.athletes:

“Let’s chat about 75 hard for a minute, and why as a registered dietitian and former college athlete, I don’t recommend it 👇🏼 a potentially controversial conversation but we’re diving in!

For starters, it requires you to workout for 75 days in a row without a rest day. I get the point of pursuing mental toughness, but your body NEEDS rest! Especially over the course of 75 days. It needs time to repair, recover and rebuild from the work you’ve done. Otherwise, it’s just breaking down and never rebuilding. And increasing your risk of injury.

Second, you need to follow a diet for 75 days, no cheating! If you’ve been hanging out in my corner of IG for a while, you know I do not support dieting. That’s because dieting is one of the top predictors of weight gain, can slow your metabolism, breakdown muscle (especially if you’re working out and NOT resting), and puts an end date on eating a certain way. Food and your nutrition should be something you can maintain for life! You’re not “cheating” by eating certain things. This mindset breeds an unhealthy relationship with food.

Lastly, a gallon of water is not appropriate for the majority of the population! Should most people be drinking more water? Yes. Do they need to drink a whole gallon?!? More than likely, no. And drinking too much water can be just as dangerous as drinking too little water.

If you’re looking to improve your health after sport, I am ALL here for it 🙌🏼 but unlike our time as an athlete where going to extremes was the norm, you don’t have to pursue unsustainable extremes in order to get there.

Eating more fruits and veggies. Moving your body more regularly. Drinking more water. Focusing on longevity of your changes for LIFE. Not just running yourself into the ground for 75 days.”
