We all have indigenous ancestors and culture no matter where we’re from and to see the native Hawaiians at #MaunaKea being pushed away is heartbreaking. For those that aren’t aware of what’s going on, the government is attempting to build a 30 meter telescope for scientific purposes on the tallest mountain in the world (below sea level) which happens to be on the Big Island of Hawai’i. It’s a 1.4 billion dollar project and by doing so, not only will it cause harm to the mountain but it will destroy the most sacred place to the native Hawaiian people. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened and the people of the island are fighting for what’s theirs. They have created a non-violent and peaceful protest by locking arms and using their positive energy to #ProtectMaunaKea. To see these Kūpuna (elders) in front of the line fighting and being arrested by their own people for standing up is completely devastating. Although I’m not of the Hawaiian decent, my other half is born and raised on the island of Hawai’i and speaks the native language which makes this situation important to me to protect him and his people. And I have been grateful & blessed to have done cultural practices in Hawai’i which I hold those experiences and the Hawaiian culture very close to my heart.

Makeup and art is one of the outlets I choose to express myself almost on a daily basis. Since I can’t physically be there, I hope this can help spread awareness to those that may not know what’s going on and to send my love to those that are fighting. The island is very much alive and everyones aloha is felt from each photo and video that is posted. For anyone that has breathed the air in Hawai’i, swam in the Hawaiian ocean, or simply has been a guest to any Hawaiian island, please continue to fight & pray for these native people that call Hawai’i HOME. To each and every person fighting for Mauna Kea near or far, you’re showing what it means to STAND with ALOHA. KŪ KIA’I MAUNA!!! ❤️
