While Santa enjoys milk & cookies for Christmas, the Providence Sacred Heart Children's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is preparing special nutrients for our youngest, tiniest patients 💙 💚 
 
Our #NICU includes a team of dieticians who are specially trained and educated on the best nutrients to help these babies grow and thrive. Every baby has their own unique diet that is customized each day. 

Some babies require IV nutrition that is special ordered by our neonatologists or neonatal nurse practitioners and double-checked by our pediatric pharmacists, while others have custom-made milk mixed with fortifiers in our designated milk-mixing room by dietary technicians. 
 
As the only level four NICU in Eastern Washington, we are equipped to care for babies as young as 22 to 24 weeks gestational age. In fact, newborns are often transferred into the Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital from Montana, Idaho, Oregon and other surrounding states, so they can receive the most advanced level of care available.
