Kankakee's town center will be quieter than usual for Spring's first hot-weather day. They'll all be down the road as Cup fever grips the area, a simmering hot-bed of soccer culture which has seen two native-sons recently launch into soccer's professional ranks, nickmarkanich and anthonymarkanich. WFAV, WVLI and WIVR each continue to amplify the "win or go home" match through the weekend.

The 100-year old USASA Cup - which crowns the national semi-pro champion - is one day away, Sunday at 6:30pm! 

City enters the single-elimination tournament in Round 2 against fellow Midwest Premier League foe Czarni Jaslo.

Steel City hopes the "third time is the charm" after having lost to Jaslo twice in Kankakee in the single-elimination Illinois State Cup.

The sides played to a record Steel City crowd of 517 fans last year at Duly Health and Care Field in Joliet in Midwest Premier League play. Jaslo won that match too en-route to the league title.

Steel City has competed in the USASA Cup twice, compiling a 2-2 record. The red-n-black were eliminated in penalty kicks last year in Round 2. City reached Round 4 in '22. 

The match arrives early in Steel City's season, well before the contingent of college players arrive from campus. If that's not enough of a challenge, Jaslo is the reigning Midwest Premier League and Illinois State Cup Champions.

Jake Lysik's three goals and Nolan McGrath's three assist are Steel City's all-time leading marks in USASA Cup play.
