“It is truly a blessing to have the opportunity to bring a mini-soccer pitch to the greater Indianapolis area. I believe that the mini-pitch will serve the community in several ways by granting local residents exposure to new opportunities through the beautiful game of soccer!

I want to thank everyone involved in not only the installation at
IndyParksandRec Oscar Charleston Park, but the 12 other mini-pitches being installed nationwide in communities of significance for bpcmls and bwpcollective in an initiative to remove systemic barriers to soccer for youth of color.

The Oscar Charleston Park mini-pitch is also an art installation celebrating Black excellence, while hoping to inspire the Indianapolis  residents through a storytelling component seen through the art illustrations displayed within the mini-pitch. ashleynora_art , israelsoloart, psnob and matthew_ecooper did murals depicting, Charleston, Madam C.J. Walker, Briana Scurry and myself.

We hope that this exceptional, unifying space will help build community in the area, while inspiring the next generation of Indianapolis youth! “ - ray_gaddis
