Today's Warrior Week Student Veteran Spotlight is Don Zilenski. Don is a veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a Cavalry Scout. While on deployment in Afghanistan in 2011, he was wounded by a mortar attack and received a Purple Heart. Three months later, on the same deployment, he was on foot patrol when his partner set his rucksack on top of a pressure plate burried in the ground. This triggered the explosives on top of the building next to them, and it collapsed on top of Don. He received a second Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his actions, but would require 25 surgeries to reconstruct his body. He is deaf and blind on the left side of his head, but as a result of his resilience, Don is able to stand here today as a sophomore studying Psychology. Don is the Ole Miss Honorary Captain for tomorrows Military Appreciation Game!
