A year on from the career-ending start crash of Willy Mairesse, Jacky Ickx's one-man protest at the Le Mans 24 Hours - On This Day in 1969 - changed the race forever. 🫡 While the other drivers ran to their cars as usual, Ickx walked to his Ford GT40, fastened his seatbelts and drove away in last place. 🚶‍♂️ This, and the first lap death of privateer John Woolfe, led to the abolition of the traditional Le Mans start for the following year.
