Luciano Burti survived a sickening crash at Blanchimont, On This Day in 2001. Contact with Jaguar's Eddie Irvine on lap five of the Belgian Grand Prix sent him spearing into an unprotected tyre barrier; the 111g impact broke the front of Burti's crash helmet, which had been weakened by a hole drilled for a drinks tube - a practice subsequently banned.⁣
