Watts up? It's Wattage Wednesday!

Flibe Energy, best known for popularizing thorium as a nuclear fuel, has introduced a new reactor called LFLEUR (Lithium Fluoride Low Enriched Uranium Reactor). LFLEUR is a thermal spectrum molten salt reactor designed for efficient construction and deployment. The main difference from their previous “LFTR”? You guessed it – it now runs on commercially available low-enriched uranium fuel.
Flibe Energy plans to offer a fuel leasing program where they retain ownership of the fuel and handle recertification, allowing customers to focus on providing affordable energy to their customers. 

Additional advantages of LFLEUR include the ability to offer operational subsidies to customers through secondary reactor products (like medical isotopes!) which would offset operating costs. They are also focusing on a scalable design that allows for deployments ranging from several megawatts up to multi-gigawatt grid-scale installations.

Operational production reactors are targeted to come online in 2040.
