The subtle subconscious thoughts of exposing for the best possible outcome; a photo (on film) will only be as good as its shadows. You expose for the darkest point in the frame, knowing that whatever is over-exposed can be dropped and fixed later in adjustments. Photos are only as good as their weakest light. We are only as strong as our weakest link.
