The Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) is proud to announce that it has partnered with Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention organization in America, for the fourth consecutive year. The objective of the partnership is for players to add their powerful and passionate voices to raise awareness, expose the gun lobby and fight for public safety measures that will protect communities from gun violence. 

This year, t__cloud9 (Washington Mystics), brittbundlez (Los Angeles Sparks), and retired player mspeters14 participated in educational sessions to help inform players across the league and will lead the players’ work on this initiative alongside Everytown. The players will wear orange, the defining color of the gun violence prevention movement, throughout the weekend with a specific push today, Friday June 3rd, the official #WearOrange Day. As champions of this movement, the players #WearOrange to be seen and to demand that they are heard. 

Gun violence touches every town in America. In the last three weeks alone, it has ravaged cities across the country. Buffalo, NY. Laguna Woods, CA. Uvalde, TX. Tulsa, OK. We cannot become numb to the tragedies we witness daily. We must demand change. 

The official hashtag we are using for this year’s campaign and moving forward to represent the unity demonstrated by the members of the WNBPA is: #TeamWWearsOrange. The signature tye-dye t-shirt similarly bears Everytown’s simple, yet powerful message: “Wear Orange.”
