On Aug. 2, 1971, Apollo 15 commander David Scott dropped a geological hammer and a feather simultaneously on the surface of the Moon as a test of Galileo’s law of motion. Both objects landed on the lunar surface at the same time.⁣
⁣
This color reproduction was taken from a transmission made by the color television camera mounted on the Lunar Roving Vehicle. ⁣
⁣
The Apollo 15 astronauts conducted this demonstration toward the end of the third and final moonwalk of the mission. ⁣The Apollo 15 Lunar Module was called “Falcon.”
