## Caption

According to Berkeley Humane Executive Director Jeffrey Zerwekh, the local shelter in one of the counties — Chico Animal Shelter in Butte County — had contacted Berkeley Human to help relocate a slew of rescued animals as the fires move beyond the region. 

The shelter — which takes in stray, abandoned and displaced animals — had become a temporary evacuation center for animals in the surrounding area. In the wake of the new fires, Zerwekh stated that it needed help relocating 35 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.

Until the animals are ready for adoption, they will be in foster homes following their treatments.
