DEVILS WIN!!!
The #NJDevils have handed Detroit their first regulation loss of the season, and they did it by skating them to the ground despite being on the backend of a back-to-back. This has been a strange start to the Devils’ season, where they’ve been outshooting their opponents by an absurd average of nearly 20 per game. In their losses, goaltending and special teams have hurt them. That was not the case tonight. Vitek Vanecek earned his first W as a Devil, stopping 20 of 22 (.909 SV%)! In addition, they scored a powerplay goal (Jesper Bratt) AND a shorthanded goal (Yegor Sharangovich). Speaking of Bratt, he added ANOTHER assist making it nine on the season. His three points tonight brought him to 3G & 9A for 12 points in just seven games. He’s been remarkable. Jack Hughes also had two points of his own which included a goal…a much needed one after a rough go of it vs. the Caps. They also did this all without Ondrej Palat…Fabian Zetterlund had SEVEN shots on goal in his absence, which led the team. He was all over the place. We see what can happen when the team can finish their chances and get the saves they need. When that happens, they blow teams out. The question is whether or not they can play like this consistently, but the good news is the talent is there. That’s evident. This was some sweet revenge for the brutal loss we suffered against the Red Wings during the Home Opener. LGD!! 😈
