DEVILS WIN!!!!!
The #NJDevils overcame a two goal deficit to rattle off their first victory of the season!! Despite a horrific first period that found them in a hole, they came back flying for the rest of the game and thankfully got the result they deserved. Ondrej Palat kicked the scoring off with his first in a Devils uniform, and captain Nico Hischier knotted things up a few minutes later. Speaking of…Nico played an excellent game last night and had some great chemistry with Palat/Bratt. The third period found the Devils relentlessly attacking Anaheim, and they finally broke the tie with a Dougie Hamilton goal off a gorgeous feed from Jesper Bratt. Jesper has 5 assists in 3 GP, which is tied with David Pastrnak and Nathan Mackinnon for second in the league. The pressure continued, and Dawson Mercer (who also played very well) added an insurance goal. Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt, and Jack Hughes all had multiple points on the night. Ondrej Palat was a +3. Above all, however, is the play of Mackenzie Blackwood. After letting in two of his first four shots, he buckled down and saved all 16 the rest of the way (1.000 SV%). The recipe is simple: get timely saves and finish chances. The Devils did exactly that last night, and therefore came out with two points in front of their home crowd. They’ll be back on Thursday to take on the Isles at UBS Arena. LGD!! 😈
