## Caption

80’s night has come to an end in Jersey. The Devils fall 4-2 to Toronto. However, it could have been much worse. The Devils had a typical Devils first period and that was the difference. 3-0 at the end of the first. You’d expect it to unravel, right?? Wrong. The Devils finally found the back of the net on a Blake Coleman backhander in the middle of the second. Twenty seconds later, Brian Boyle ripped one home sending the arena into a frenzy. (Also leading to everybody joining a chorus of “Take on Me”) Just like that, it was 3-2. Some huge saves were made by Keith Kinkaid (much needed after the atrocious second period in Buffalo). However, the Leafs were just too good defensively to allow the Devils to get the equalizer. The Devils struggled to pull Kinkaid and then once they finally did, they only had one decent opportunity (Palmieri one-timer missed the net) and Toronto scored on an empty net. However, there were definitely some positives:
•Blake Coleman passed his total of goals from last season, and is now the second highest goal scorer on the Devils, eclipsing Taylor Hall
•Blake Pietila gathered his first career point
•Kinkaid had a strong bounce back outing
•The last two periods, the Devils played better defensively, especially against an elite team like Toronto
•We move closer to getting the first overall draft pick (hey @jackhughes_ 😉) The Devils will be back at the Rock Saturday afternoon for Firefighter Appreciation Day. There is a possibility Mackenzie Blackwood could be activated off IR to start. Maybe we can get the Mackenzie Blackwood/Carter Hart matchup we’ve all been craving🤷‍♂️ Short summary:
Thought this game would be worse. Could’ve definitely been worse. And now we move closer to Hughes because we aren’t making the playoffs anyway. So good job Devils??? #TORvsNJD
