Today in Hip-Hop — N.W.A released their game changing debut album, ‘Straight Outta Compton.’

At the time of its release, the music was too abrasive for many radio stations to play—which resulted in even more interest. The track “Fuck Tha Police” even earned an official warning from the FBI, giving N.W.A notoriety to refer to themselves as “the world’s most dangerous group.”

Despite scarce radio play, the examples made from their album opened the door for hip-hop’s transition toward hardcore, gangsta rap.
